What are the cords that have developed under the skin of my inner arm after breast cancer surgery?

Q: What are the cords that have developed under the skin of my inner arm after breast cancer surgery?

A: Axillary web syndrome, also known as cording, sometimes develops under the axilla and up to the inner part of the elbow as a side effect of breast cancer surgery. It generally causes pain and limits movement of the arms (upward extension). In such case, it is advisable to speak with a physician and start breast cancer rehabilitation, which includes stretching and flexibility exercises.
