What is vitamin B2 (riboflavin)?

Vitamin B2 or riboflavin is part of the so-called water soluble vitamins. They are not stored in the body and must be taken regularly through foods or supplements.

 

What are the benefits of vitamin B2?

Much like vitamin B1, vitamin B2 plays a role in cell metabolism. Its job is to release the energy nutrient that the body needs to carry out essential daily activities. 

 

Which foods are rich in vitamin B2? 

Vitamin B2 or riboflavin is present in dairy products (particularly in milk and cheeses), eggsyeast, and liver as well as in green, leafy vegetables

 

What is the daily requirement of vitamin B2?

The daily requirement of vitamin B2 is calculated based on calories consumed and according to findings; 0.6mg is recommended per 1,000 Kcal. 

 

Vitamin B2 deficiency 

In children, the lack of vitamin B2 or riboflavin can cause delayed growth and slow down the absorption process of food, especially lipids
Symptoms associated with vitamin B2 deficiency include loss of appetite, anemia, muscle weakness, tachycardia, and eye vision problems (cataracts, conjunctivitis, and lens opacity).

 

Excessive vitamin B2 intake

There are no side effects caused by excessive vitamin B2 intake. Excessive doses can be expelled from the body through urination.
