Terazosin

Terazosin is used to treat symptoms of benign prostatic hypertrophy. Alone or in combination with other drugs, it is also used in the treatment of high blood pressure.

What is Terazosin?

Terazosin is an alpha blocker drug that works by relaxing blood vessels and muscles associated with bladder and prostate cancer.

How should Terazosin be taken?

Terazosin can be consumed orally in capsule form. The dosage can include one capsule daily before bedtime or two capsules daily. The dose initially prescribed could be low and then gradually increased by your doctor.

Side effects associated with Terazosin

Among the possible adverse effects of terazosin are the following:

  • weakness
  • fatigue
  • stuffy or runny nose
  • back pain
  • nausea
  • weight gain
  • sexual dysfunctions
  • clouding of vision
  • swelling of hands, feet, ankles and calves
  • pain, burning, numbness or tingling in the hands or feet

It is important to immediately contact a doctor if you are taking terazosin and experience any of the following:

  • hives
  • rash
  • itching
  • shortness of breath
  • fast heartbeat, heavy or irregular
  • painful or prolonged erections

Contraindications and warnings associated with the use of Terazosin

Terazosin may impair your ability to drive or operate dangerous machinery. It may also cause dizziness when suddenly standing up.

Moreover, before you consume terazosin it's important to tell your doctor if:

  • You have any allergies to the active substance, doxazosin, prazosin, or to any other medication
  • You are taking other medicines, herbal remedies and supplements, remembering to mention erectile dysfunction medications and antihypertensives
  • You suffer (or suffered) from prostate cancer
  • You are taking medication against hypertension, you are pregnant or lactating.
