Semustine

Semustine is primarily used to treat brain tumors, colorectal tumors, lymphomas, and stomach cancer.

 

What is Semustine?

Semustine is an alkylating agent. It modifies DNA and prevents the replication and growth of cancer cells.  

 

How should Semustine be taken?     

Semustine is typically administered intravenously via injection.

 

Side effects associated with Semustine

Semustine is classified by the IARC (the International Agency for Research on Cancer) as a Group 1 carcinogen (carcinogenic to humans).

 

Among the possible side effects of Semustine include the following:

 

  • Kidney damage
  • Thrombocytopenia
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Hyperpigmentation

 

A possible overdose can cause:

 

  • Convulsions
  • Pulmonary fibrosis
  • Leukopenia
  • Optic neuritis

 

Contraindications and warnings associated with the use of Semustine
