Seizures

Seizures are rapid and uncontrollable tremors due to a continuous cycle of contraction and relaxation of muscles.

 

What kind of diseases can be associated with seizures?

Diseases that may be associated with seizures are:

  • Dengue
  • Ebola
  • Epilepsy
  • Carbon monoxide poisoning
  • Malaria
  • Cat-scratch disease
  • Meningitis
  • Pre-eclampsia
  • Tetanus
  • Toxoplasmosis

What is the therapy for seizures?

In most cases, the seizures will stop on their own, but until they stop it is important that those who suffer from the attack to not get hurt. It is recommended the person suffering from the attacks to lie down with his head on a soft pillow. In case of a fever the patient can take antipyretics, or possibly lower the body temperature with warm compresses.

 

When is most likely to contact your doctor in case of seizures?

In case of seizures, you should seek medical attention especially if the tremors last for more than 5 minutes and if you suspect that the reason for the seizure is a serious medical problem, such as an infection or epilepsy.
