Roxatidine

 

Roxatidine is primarily used for the treatment of gastrointestinal ulcers, excessive gastric acidity and, in combination with other therapies, for gastroesophageal reflux.

What is Roxatidine?

Roxatidine is an H2-receptor antagonist for histamine in the stomach. It works by blocking the stomach cells from producing acid secretion.

How should Roxatidine be taken?

Typically, Roxatidine is taken orally, but it can also be administered through a vein injection.

Side effects associated with Roxatidine

Among the possible adverse effects are included:

  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Diarrhea
  • Restlessness
  • Constipation
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting

You should immediately contact a doctor if taking Roxatidine triggers any of the following symptoms:

  • Rash
  • Urticaria
  • Itchy skin
  • Difficult breathing
  • Chest tightness
  • Swelling of the mouth, face, lips or tongue

Contraindications and warnings associated with the use of Roxatidine

Treatments with Roxatidine may increase the concentrations of liver enzymes.

Roxatidine is contraindicated in cases of anuria.

Moreover, before starting the treatment it is important to tell your doctor if:

  • You have any allergy to the active substance, other components, other drugs or foods
  • You are taking other medications, herbal remedies and supplements
  • You suffer (or had suffered) anuria, kidney or liver problems and cardiovascular disorders
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding
