Renal colic

Q: Is renal colic always a symptom of the presence of kidney stones?

A: Unfortunately, no. Colic is only the consequence of an obstruction to the flow of urine along the urinary tract. It is mostly caused by kidneys tones but it can also be caused by urethra and renal cancer, and more rarely, related disease of the urinary tract may compress and obstruct the kidney stones on some level.
