Perindopril

Perindopril is used alone or in combination with other medications to treat high blood pressure.

 

What is Perindopril?

 

Perindopril belongs to the class of ACE inhibitors. It acts by enhancing the flow of blood by preventing the production of molecules that restrict the blood vessels.

 

How should Perindopril be taken?

 

Typically, Perindopril is taken one or two times a day in the form of tablets to swallow. The doctor may prescribe a low initial dose and then increase it in case of need.

 

Side effects associated with Perindopril

 

The possible adverse effects of Peridopril may include:

 

  • Cough
  • Headache
  • Weakness
  • Dizziness
  • Diarrhea
  • Stomach ache
  • Gastric problems

 

It is important to immediately contact a doctor if Perindopril triggers any of the following symptoms:

 

  • Swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, eyes, hands, feet, ankles or calves
  • Hoarseness
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Feeling faint or lightheaded
  • Fainting
  • Fever, sore throat, chills, and other signs of infection
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat

 

Contraindications and warnings associated with the use of Perindopril

 

Before taking Perindopril is important to tell your doctor if:

 

  • You have any allergies to the active substance, its excipients or other drugs, in particular to benazepril, captopril, enalapril, fosinopril, lisinopril, moexipril, quinapril, ramipril or trandolapril
  • You suffer from diabetes and you are taking aliskiren
  • You are taking other medications, herbal remedies and supplements, remembering to mention cyclosporine, diuretics, heparin, indomethacin, lithium and potassium supplements
  • You intend to take substitutes containing potassium salt
  • You are on dialysis
  • You have ever had a heart attack
  • You suffer (or have suffered) from systemic lupus erythematosus, scleroderma, diabetes, swelling of the face, throat, lips, eyes, hands, feet, ankles or calves, kidney disease or liver disease
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding
