Pentostatin

Pentostatin is used in treatments for various forms of cancer.

What is Pentostatin?

Pentostatin is an antitumor agent. Its mechanism of action has not been elucidated yet.

How should Pentostatin be taken?

Pentostatin is administered by vein injection.

Side effects associated with Pentostatin

Among the possible adverse effects are included:

  • Diarrhea
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Loss of appetite
  • Muscle ache
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Weakness

You should immediately contact a doctor if taking Pentostatin triggers any of the following symptoms:

  • Rash
  • Urticaria
  • Itchy skin
  • Difficult breathing
  • Chest tightness
  • Swelling of the mouth, face, lips or tongue
  • Chills
  • Cough
  • Eye pain
  • Vision problems
  • Temperature
  • Hoarseness
  • Itching, pain, redness or swelling at the injection site
  • Sore throat
  • Sores in the mouth or on the lips
  • Bleeding or bruising
  • Unusual tiredness or weakness

Contraindications and warnings associated with the use of Pentostatin

Pentostatin should not be taken together with Fludarabine.

Moreover, before starting the treatment it is important to tell your doctor if:

  • You have any allergies to the active substance, its excipients, other medicines or any food
  • You are taking other medications, herbal remedies and supplements taken, especially carmustine, cyclophosphamide, etoposide, fludarabine and vidarabine
  • You suffer (or have suffered) infections, chickenpox, kidney problems or blood disorders
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding
