Penciclovir

Penciclovir is used to treat blisters that appear on the lips and face due to infection from simplex herpes.

What is Penciclovir?

Penciclovir reduces the pain and itching associated with the infection from simplex herpes, preventing its replication.

How should Penciclovir be taken?

Oral therapy is not very effective. For this reason, Penciclovir is mainly used through topical treatments.

The products based on this active ingredient are directly applied onto the area that needs to be treated. The cream is typically applied every two hours during the day, for four consecutive days.

Side effects associated with Penciclovir

Possible side effects of Penciclovir include the following:

  • Headaches
  • Irritation at the application site

If the symptoms are severe or do not spontaneously resolve, it is recommended to consult with a doctor.

Possible poisoning can be recognized through symptoms such as headache with abdominal pain, nausea, indigestion, dizziness, increased lipase levels in the blood and hyperbilirubinemia.

Contraindications and warnings associated with the use of Penciclovir

Before using Penciclovir, it is important to inform your doctor:

  • If you are allergic to the active ingredient, acyclovir or any other drug
  • If you are taking any medicinal products, herbal remedies or supplements
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
