Gemfibrozil

Gemfibrozil is a fiber bundle that works by reducing the production of triglycerides in the liver.

What is Gemfibrozil?

Taking gemfibrozil is combined with the reduction of the consumption of foods containing cholesterol and fat to lower the level of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood of people where triglycerides are very high and they run the risk of developing pancreatic problems. The drug does not cure the problem: just helps keep it under control. Gemifibrozil is also used in the treatment of patients in which the levels of HDL ('good cholesterol') are low, and those of LDL ('bad cholesterol') are high and triglycerides are elevated. The goal is to reduce the risk of cardiovascular problems.

How should Gemfibrozil be taken?

Gemfibrozil is consumed orally in tablet form. Typically taken twice a day, half an hour before breakfast and dinner.

Side effects associated with Gemfibrozil

Among the possible adverse effects of gemfibrozil are included the following:

  • stomach ache

It is important to tell a doctor immediately if the drug triggers pain or muscle weakness, sensitivity to touch or blurred vision.
