Cold

The common cold is an ailment of viral origin associated with nasal congestion, runny nose and sneezing. These symptoms can also connect with sore throat, cough, headache and other minor annoyances, such as muscle aches and low fever.

More frequent during winter and rainy months, the cold can easily hit when you touch your nose, eyes or mouth with contaminated hands by one of several viruses that cause it. The infection is contagious during the first 2 or 3 days, and usually stops within a week of it.

 

What kind of diseases can be associated with common cold?

The following diseases may be associated with colds:

  • Respiratory allergies
  • Bronchitis
  • Dengue
  • Atopic dermatitis
  • Cystic fibrosis
  • Ear infections
  • Food intolerance
  • Molluscum
  • Whooping cough
  • Pneumonia
  • Rubella
  • Sinusitis

What is the therapy for colds?

Most colds resolve themself in a few days. To promote healing, it is important to drink a lot and rest. Eventually counter medicines (e.g. decongestant effect) which, although not help speed up the healing process, can help you feel better.

 

When is most likely to contact your doctor in case of colds?

In case of a cold, it is good to seek medical attention in case of breathing problems and if the symptoms get worse or do not improve within 7-10 days.
