Clinafloxacin

Clinafloxacin is effective against pneumococci, anaerobes and atypical micro-organisms (such as chlamydia, legionella and mycoplasma). It can be used in respiratory infections, intra-abdominal and severe infections of the skin and soft tissues.

What is Clinafloxacin?

Clinafloxacin is an antibiotic that belongs to the family of Fluoroquinolones (third-generation Quinolones). Pair of other Quinolones is able to inhibit the synthesis of bacterial DNA during replication and to have bactericidal activity towards most of the Gram-negative bacteria. It acts by interrupting the replication of the DNA molecules, through selective inhibition of the two types of enzymes critical to the bacterial cell. The block of both enzymes leads to the death of the bacterium.

How should Clinafloxacin be taken?

Clinafloxacin is administered orally.

Side effects associated with the use of Clinafloxacin

It can cause side effects associated with the digestive system (dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain) and the nervous system (headache, nervousness, insomnia, dizziness) as it happens in the case of other molecules that belong to the class of Fluoroquinolones.

Among the other possible adverse effects are included:

  • Itching
  • Rash
  • Erythema
  • Urticaria

Contraindications and warnings associated with the use of Clinafloxacin

The use of Clinafloxacin is contraindicated in individuals with hypersensitivity to the active substance or similar molecules (other Fluoroquinolones, for example).
