Bladder dysfunction

Bladder dysfunction is an anomaly in the filling or the emptying of the bladder and can be associated with malfunction of the muscles involved in its wall, those regulating the urine flow or those of the pelvic floor. Moreover, even neurological problems and some medications can affect the proper operation of the bladder.

 

What kind of diseases can be associated bladder dysfunction?

The following diseases may be associated with bladder dysfunction:

  • Ectopic ureter bilateral
  • Encephalopathies
  • Epispadias
  • Myelodysplasia
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Urogenital sinus
  • Syphilis
  • Neurogenic bladder

Remember that this is not an exhaustive list and it is highly recommended to consult your doctor, in case of symptom’s persistence.

 

What is the therapy for bladder dysfunction?

The best therapy depends on the underlying cause of the bladder dysfunction. In some cases it may be necessary to take drugs, undergo injections of molecules such as botulin toxin. In other situations psychotherapy, behavioural approach based on appropriate exercises, programmed emptying training of the bladder or biofeedback may be helpful.
