Bacitracin

The bacitracin prevents the synthesis of the wall of the bacteria.

 

What is Bacitracin?

 

The bacitracin can be prescribed for oral administration in order to treat diarrhea associated with intestinal diseases, to fight difficult infections by Clostridium, or in case you need a post-operative treatment of the intestines. It is more frequently used as a topical treatment in the form of creams or ointments to prevent infections associated with small cuts, scratches or burns.

Finally, bacitracin may be administered in the form of injections to combat staph infections, especially pneumonia in children.

 

How should Bacitracin be taken?

 

The predominant use of bacitracin is topical, but there are cases in which it is administered intramuscularly. On the other hand, bacitracin is rarely prescribed for oral consumption.

 

Side effects associated with Bacitracin

 

In cases when bacitracin is taken intravenously it can be toxic to the kidneys and ears.

 

Contraindications and warnings associated with the use of Bacitracin

 

Bacitracin should not be used in cases of allergy to the active substance or to any of the drug ingredients. Moreover, prior to undergoing treatment with bacitracin, it is important to inform the doctor if you are pregnant. The topical use with creams and ointments is not recommended on large areas of the body or in case of serious infections. In cases of deep wounds, insect bites or serious burns, it is recommended to seek advice from a doctor or physician before treatment.
