Neurological rehabilitation

The Department of Rehabilitation and Functional Recovery at Humanitas provides inpatient and outpatient hospital services to over 4,000 patients each year. It covers patients in collaboration with most of the Operating Units in the Clinical Hospital (intensive care, cardiac surgery, cardiology, orthopedics, neurosurgery, neurology, thoracic surgery, pulmonology, vascular surgery, general surgery).
The aim is to prepare the patient for the intervention and/or minimize post-operative complications and hereby facilitate a faster functional recovery.

The Department of Rehabilitation and Functional Recovery consists of three sections dedicated respectively to orthopedic rehabilitation, neurological rehabilitation and cardio-respiratory rehabilitation with over one hundred hospital beds. The Department, in addition to traditional therapies, implements the most modern methods in order to allow the patient the best recovery of temporarily lost functions functions.

Patients treated through outpatient services can use the same facilities used in inpatient services. Particular attention is paid to the treatment of patients who have undergone orthopaedic surgery in the day hospital. They can then continue their care in the days after surgery. Then there are patients with chronic diseases of the musculoskeletal system (osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, low back pain, neck pain, etc.) and patients suffering from cardiac, respiratory and neurological diseases.

Since 2007, the Department is active in the new Center for Research and Education and Rehabilitation at Humanitas, developed in an autonomous structure of 6,000 square meters and located in front of the hospital. The rehabilitation center houses 120 beds divided into three wards dedicated to orthopedic, neurological and cardiorespiratory rehabilitation. There are 6 halls, 12 therapy rooms and 4 clinics available for approximately 270 patients that walk in the center every day.
