The Guidelines For The Management Of Chronic Inflammatory Intestinal Diseases

ECCO (European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation) developed some guidelines for the management of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, in order to help doctors and patients choose the most appropriate therapies.

In fact, each pathology is associated with its own options and chances of success, in order to allow doctors to orient themselves in scientific information and patients to make their own informed choices.

The guidelines aim to make life better for patients with Chronic Inflammatory Intestinal Diseases (CIID) and answer to their needs.

This work is the result of the collaboration between ECCO and EFCCA (The European Federation of Crohn’s & Ulcerative Colitis Associations) and the creation of distinct focus groups for each pathology.

Attention To Patients

Also AMICI Onlus, an association of patients with ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease and their families, contributed to the guidelines’ writing.

“Our goal is to mamaking the lives of IBD patients better and easier”, explained Professor Silvio Danese, Supervisor of the Chronic Inflammatory Intestinal Diseases Center at Humanitas and ECCO President. The definition of these guidelines is the result of a long-lasting, careful work that required healthcare professionals, patients and associations. They have the common goal of marking a turning point in the treatment of these pathologies, that affect a great number of people in Italy and in the world. I thank AMICI Onlus for their important and fundamental contribute to the definition of the Guidelines.

The Guidelines are an important step in the management and care of the CIIDs, commented Erica Previtali, President of AMICI Onlus. Now, doctors and patients have a tool to channel treatments to make life better for Crohn’s or ulcerative colitis patients. We are honored and proud to have given our contribute to the definition of these Guidelines, as an association for the protection of the patients.
