Alosetron

Alosetron is used to treat women with severe irritable bowel syndrome, accompanied by diarrhea.

 

What is Alosetron?

Alosetron works by blocking the action of serotonin on the intestinal system. This in turn reduces stomach pain and other symptoms. 

 

How should Alosetron be taken?

Alosetron is typically administered orally.

 

Side effects associated with Alosetron

Among the possible side effects of alosetron include the following:  

 

  • Headache
  • Stomach discomfort
  • Hemorrhoids

 

It is important to contact a doctor immediately if you experience:

 

  • Rash
  • Urticaria
  • Itch
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Tightness in the chest
  • Swelling of the mouth, face, lips or tongue
  • Swelling
  • Depression
  • Constipation
  • Bloody stool
  • Fever
  • Accelerated pulse
  • Sudden pain in the stomach and intestines

 

Contraindications and warnings associated with the use of Alosetron

Before starting treatment with alosetron, it is important to tell your doctor if:

 

  • You have any allergies to the active substance, its excipients or to any other drugs or food
  • You are taking any other medications, herbal remedies or supplements. Mentioning in particular:  apomorphine, fluvoxamine, antispasmodics, antidiarrheal drugs, hydralazine, isoniazid, narcotics, procainamide, cimetidine, quinolones or drugs that can induce constipation
  • You are suffering (or have suffered) from severe intestinal problems, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis , diverticulitis , liver or blood disorders
  • You are pregnant or breast-feeding
