Hair Loss in Men: What Causes It?

The importance of our hair health should never be underestimated, both in men and in women.

The Causes of Hair Loss

Hair loss is normal and physiological to a certain limit, especially during some seasons. In the case of men, 80 percent may suffer from androgenetic alopecia (baldness), a condition due to genetic or hormonal causes.

Hair loss may also depend on other causes, such as thyroid dysfunction, immune system alterations, dietary deficiencies, or other conditions that may need further investigation.

A dermatological examination with trichoscopy (hair analysis) is used to understand the causes and intervene with appropriate medical therapies, if necessary. The diet must be healthy and balanced, with fruits and vegetables rich in natural antioxidants, eggs, and fish. Abstention from cigarettes and protection from sunlight also help prevention.

Signs Not to be Underestimated

Thinning hair is the first red flag and is a typical sign of those with a genetic predisposition to alopecia. The dermatological examination with trichoscopy (hair analysis) can precisely assess the characteristic signs of this condition that cannot, unfortunately, be prevented but can be slowed down with some interventions.

Tips for Healthy Hair

Diet and lifestyle play an important role in maintaining healthy hair.

Fruits and vegetables rich in natural antioxidants, like eggs and fish, also rich in L-Lysine, are particularly recommended.

Protecting your hair from the sun’s rays with a hat is equally important, as removing any traces of gel and hairspray with frequent washings and using appropriate products such as a mild, anti-hair loss shampoo.

Lastly, it’s better not to smoke.
