Stomach ache

The terminology stomach ache is generally referred to a set of interference perceived at the level of the stomach, or localized in the upper part of the abdomen and below the sternum. Usually the stomach ache is closely related to poor digestion, which in turn may be due to several causes:

  • introduction of an excessive amount of food
  • presence of food allergies or intolerances
  • taking cold drinks during digestion
  • Excessive speed in dine
  • consumption of t heavy food
  • nervousness and stress

 

It can also be connected with the burning and the acidity of the stomach.

In addition to the feeling of discomfort and / or acute pain in the stomach, there are many symptoms that may characterize the stomach ache including: halitosis, acidity, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, abdominal bloating and belching.

Most of the time the stomach ache, which is not a disease, but a collection of symptoms, is a temporary discomfort that can solve itself independently or through a few simple behavioral and / or pharmacological interventions. In a few selected cases, however, it can be an indicator of more serious conditions.

 

What kind of diseases can be associated with stomach ache?

The following diseases may be associated with stomach pain:

  • Perianal abscess
  • Coccydynia
  • Colitis
  • Ulcerative colitis
  • Hiatal hernia
  • Food intolerance
  • Crohn's disease
  • Pre-eclampsia
  • Anal fissures
  • Syphilis
  • Constipation
  • Anal cancer

What is the therapy for stomach ache?

In general, treatments that can fight stomach ache depend on the base of the condition. After a medical advice, it may be useful to avoid the consumption of certain foods and taking specific drugs, including antacids (against burning), prokinetic (can promote gastric emptying), antibiotics, analgesics.
