Humanitas and Cambridge: important collaboration between excellences. Prof. Servadei appointed Honorary Visiting Professor

Professor Franco Servadei, Professor of Neurosurgery at Humanitas University and President of the World Federation of Neurosurgery, has been appointed Honorary Visiting Professor at the University of Cambridge “for his contribution in the field of neurotraumatology and global neurosurgery”.

The collaboration between Prof. Servadei and the Department of Neurosurgery of Cambridge began six years ago; in the last three years it has materialized with the production of six important scientific publications, including a study on the clinical results of decompressive craniectomy published in the “New England Journal of Medicine”, one of the most prestigious medical journals.

“It is a very important work of exchange and research” since “thanks to this appointment once a year I will be in Cambridge – one of the first three Universities of Medicine in the world, after Harvard and Oxford – for teachings, meetings and conferences” explained Servadei. An opportunity, he added, “that also enriches the heritage of Humanitas: Professor Peter Hutchinson, in fact, former Director of Neurochirurga in Cambridge, has been appointed in turn Visiting Professor at Humanitas, where he will hold lectures and conferences in the week of May 6 to 10, 2019.

In the three days leading up to his appointment – from 26 to 28 November – Prof. Franco Servadei held a series of meetings to plan future research collaborations, which will focus on the field of primary acute brain damage (such as head trauma, cerebral ischemia, acute haemorrhagic lesions) between Humanitas NeuroCenter (directed by Prof. Matteoli) and the Department of Neuroscience of Cambridge University. He also gave a lecture at the Grand Round entitled “Management of traumatic brain injury. Past, present and future”.
