A 128-slice CT scanner exploits ionizing radiation to build diagnostic images and delivers anatomic representation of the body starting from the various filtering degrees of radiation bundles by tissues. Hence, a representation of human body anatomy is obtained with axial sectional views in normal and pathologic conditions. The most recent generation of CT scanners (spiral CT scan) allow to take thoroughly-detailed images, with the possibility to reconstruct body representations on every anatomic planes beyond the axial one, without losing quality of the image. Humanitas can count on cutting-edge multi-slice CT scanning equipment, both 16-slice and 64-slice, that allow for a top-class image quality standard and very short image acquisition time. In the area of oncology, spreading of such equipment has led to new scenarios in terms of quantification of vascularization of the diseased tissue, thus tackling issues regarding assessment of new antitumoral medications whose action is based on destruction of vessels supplying cancerous tissues (anti-neoangiogenic drugs).
